About: Since the 1980s, Jean-Marc Bustamante has blended sculpture, painting, and photography, often inspired by architecture and landscapes. His 1978 "photographic paintings" captured suburban scenes, evoking themes of earth's "slow movement" and decivilization. Collaborating as BazileBustamante (1983–87), he created functional art objects, countering Conceptual art’s immaterial focus. His Lumières (1987–93) and Panoramas (2002–) series reimagined architectural images and abstract drawings on plexiglass, establishing new spatial dialogues. For the 2003 Venice Biennale, he introduced characters with Le Pavillon des Amazones, a “pagan chapel” combining portraits, paintings, and drawings.
